Seminary Faculty Advance Biblical Scholarship at Bible Faculty Summit

BJU Seminary faculty, along with members of BJU’s School of Theology and Global Leadership faculty and BJU Press, attended the Bible Faculty Summit at Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin, July 29–31.

At the summit, Bible teachers and seminary professors from a group of colleges and seminaries met to hear and discuss academic papers and enjoy fellowship, as they have annually since 1995.

This year, three from BJU presented papers: Brian Collins (BJU Press), “Premillennial New-Creation Millennialism: A Response to Thomas Schreiner”; Neal Cushman (BJU Seminary), “Isaiah’s 2-Stage Restoration of Israel”; and Bruce Meyer (BJU Seminary), “Shattered by Betrayal: Using Psalm 35 as a Paradigm for Counseling a Survivor of Abuse.” Ken Casillas (BJU Seminary), Kevin Oberlin (BJU), Ted Miller (BJU), Duncan Johnson (BJU Press), and others who have graduated from BJU Seminary or teach as adjuncts also attended.

“The Bible Faculty Summit provides a regular venue for our faculty to keep up with literature in our fields, advance conversations on biblical scholarship, and network with colleagues from other institutions,” said Ken Casillas, BJU Seminary professor of Old Testament. “Hearing papers presented, along with gleaning insights from attendees’ discussion of our papers and from informal conversations throughout the summit, deepens our knowledge and sharpens our skills so we can better prepare our students to handle God’s Word with precision.”

BJU will host the next Bible Faculty Summit July 29–31, 2025.
